the cure & if we survive
the cure
two cups of coffee / is the cure
for a lack in purpose / for a lack of people / for a lack of love
caffeine aligns the jitters / runs them single file / from the heart / to the brain
two cups of coffee / is the cure
for longing / for lust / for leisure / gone awry / in the last lonely hours / of night
for the dead look / in your woman’s eye / and an untouched glass of wine / for her love / that once blossomed / upon a desert plateau / and now withers / in the warm rain
two cups of coffee / is the cure
for everything / lacking / for everything / accumulated
over a life / poorly lived
everything / but / the hours / needed / for sleep

if we survive
if we survive / our lives / will be perfect / our actions / poetry / our dreams / unburdened / from the Earth / like budding / sun-soaked daisies
if we survive / we’ll drive / to Amador / drink vintage wine / lay amongst the vines / drunk / and deliberate / under blue sky / and white cirrus smiles
if we survive / we’ll make love / with light / and time / a second big bang / dripping milky way / pregnant pulsars / of lust / and levity / under brush-stroked stars / blue and black / and white
thus begins life
as I thrust to very center / of you / as I clutch your waist / like a man / dying / and release / finally / filling you / falling together / in the ephemeral quiet / of animal mind
